Basic Info
Name:James "Sawyer" Ford
Birthdate:07-20
Location:Aternaville, Ontario, Canada
Bio
Character Demographics:
Fandom: LOST
Name: James "Sawyer" Ford
Age: 37
Physical Appearance: James is a tall man, muscular but lean, with shaggy dirty blond hair. His piercing blue eyes are most often amused or glaring, or deep in thought behind some rickety glasses if he happens to be reading (which is a rather common occurence, all things
considered). He tends toward flannel and worn-in jeans. He doesn't wear underwear very often.
Education: Dropped out of ninth grade, but rather well read and intelligent.
Occupation: Used to be a con man, but is now floating around, independently wealthy because of a hefty settlement from Oceanic Airlines.
Significant Other: n/a. Has had plenty of involvements in the past, but is carefree and alone right now.
Sexual Preference: Bisexual; he leans heavily toward women but won't say no to a pretty man.

Character Biography:
History: Born in Jasper, Alabama, James lived an alright childhood -- until, that is, a con man stole his daddy's money by sleepin' with his mom, thus causing James's daddy to shoot his mom and then hisself, all right in front of the little boy. That understandably shook the boy up some. He vowed to find the man, Mr. Sawyer, who had ruined his life. In doing so, though, in being so damned focused on finding him, James found himself becoming the very man he was hunting. By the age of eighteen, he had picked up the alias of Sawyer and had started acting out the exact con that had claimed his parents' lives. Up until the summer of 2004, James's life kept on this path of stealing money, sexxing up beautiful women (and some men, sure), and vainly hunting for Mr. Sawyer.

Then one late night in a hotel room, an old contact of James's found him and, sliding James a manila envelope over a shiny wooden table, said he knew where Mr. Sawyer was hiding. James went to Australia as soon as he could and hunted down the man now going by Frank Duckett. James had never killed a man before, having saved that honor for Mr. Sawyer, and only found out after he had shot Duckett that he wasn't the right man at all -- James had been conned into doing the work of his old contact and had sold his soul in the process. James took the first flight back to the States he could, which, of course, was Oceanic Flight 815.

That didn't turn out so well, as the plane crashed into an uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean, thousands of miles off course because of system failure. James spent the next five months fighting for his life and adjusting to his weirdass surroundings, alongside the other fifty or so survivors of the crash. In the end, though, James managed to get off the island, with five others, riding a helicopter to freedom. He became one of the famous Oceanic Six and is now back in the real world, lying about everything that happened on the island, and trying to figure out how the hell to live now.

Personality in seven words or less: Crude, thoughtful, scheming, intelligent, greedy, sensitive, sexy.

How Others Perceive Your Character: An asshole, generally. James is brash and to the point; he doesn't see a need for sugarcoating anything, and that can be a real turn-off when people first meet him. Once he gets more comfortable with people, though, he starts to show a sensitivity and protective nature otherwise kept hidden.

Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: James wouldn't admit to it, but he believes pretty strongly in community and friendship, most likely because of his experiences on the island. He thinks family is important, even if he's not sure it's meant for him personally. James will kill someone if he needs to or if someone "has it coming," but it's nothing he enjoys or goes looking for.

Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: Looking for somewhere to actually settle down, somewhere where maybe no one will automatically recognize him as one of the Oceanic 6. Maybe just somewhere new, without any reminders of anything he done in the past.

Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: Has vague ideas of opening up a store, but he's not sure what kind. Maybe a pawnshop or a liquor store. Or guns. He knows somethin' about all that. If he were honest with himself, too, he'd admit to some vague hope about gettin' over Kate Austen, with whom he's in kind of desperate, pointless love.

Twenty-Questions for the Characters:

1. What turns them on: Breasts don't hurt. Woman who knows howta shoot a gun, now that's damn sexy. 'Specially if she's bein' all intelligent while doin' it.
2. What turns them off: Arrogant sons of bitches.
3. Would they see a shrink: Don't think I needta, but I've done it before and I could do it again, I guess.
4. Worst Childhood experience: Uh. How's about when my da shot hisself while sitting on the bed I was hidin' under.
5. Favorite Film: The Gunfighter.
6. Favorite Song: I hate that question, but I'll say the Who are my favorite band. How's that.
7. Favorite Word: Bed.
8. Least Favorite Word: Island. Or cage. Or polar bear, shit.
9. Favorite Curse Word: Son of a bitch
10. Best gift ever received: My grandma gave me a library card when I first moved in wit' them.
11. Sound or Noise they hate: Women cryin'.
12. Sound or Noise they love: The ocean. Weird, huh.
13. Do they know the answer to 64 million dollar question: Probably.
14. [Complete the sentence] ... All the world's a stage... and I'm operatin' the lights.
15. Did Yoko Ono really break up the Fab Four: Nah. It woulda happened anyway.
16. Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee: Chuck.
17. Half full or half empty: Full.
18. Coke or Pepsi: Pepsi.
19. If they were a Jellybean flavor, which one: Watermelon.
20. And, finally, if Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? Well, fuck. I don't know. Probably somethin' about how it don't matter that I killed Zeke or Duckett or nobody, 'cause no one wants ta hear "Fuck, son, you best get yerself down below afore I kick ya there myself." So, yeah. Somethin' like 'bout how he's happy ta see me. Hell, anyway, it's St. Peter who's at the Gates, not God hisself.

This journal exists for the sole purpose of roleplaying in [info]aternatopia. No profit is being made from this roleplay. I am not affliated with ABC, I am not James Ford, nor am I Josh Holloway.
You can find my other Sawyer RP at the journal [info]layered_con.

In Aternaville, James showed up not randomly, but moved here purposefully after becoming one of the famous Oceanic 6, the only people who supposedly survived the crash of Oceanic flight 815 on a small Pacific island called Membata. This is AU, since in LOST the Oceanic Six consist of Jack Shepard, Kate Austen, Hugo Reyes, Sayid Jarrah, Aaron Littleton and Sun-Hwa Kwon. For the purposes of this RP, James and Sayid switched places.
James moved to Aternaville a year after returning to the States, after realizing his old way of life was completely lost, and anything new he thought he had with the other survivors was out of reach.
